Gilbert went from farm town to fully built-out suburb in roughly twenty-five years, and the landscaping planted during that boom has now matured into rodent habitat.

Homes on those lots usually need the block wall line, fence penetrations, and any overhanging limbs addressed as part of the job, not just the house itself.

Our Gilbert home is only twenty years old. Why do we have roof rats now?

The house did not change. The trees did. Roof rats need canopy at roof height to move safely, and the ash, elm, and palm trees planted when these subdivisions were built have only recently grown tall enough to bridge to the roofline. Trimming limbs back three to four feet from the roof removes the bridge and is one of the highest-value things a Gilbert homeowner can do.
