Where mice nest, and why that decides trap placement
A house mouse builds its nest within about twenty feet of a food source and rarely travels further than that in a day. It is a small territory, and it is the most useful fact in the whole job.
It means the droppings tell you where the nest is. If the evidence is in one kitchen cupboard, the nest is inside that wall or under that cabinet run, not across the house. Traps go on the runway between the two, tight against the wall, because mice move along edges rather than across open floor.
